Certified birth doula, childbirth educator, perinatal mental health trained provider, and traditional babywearing educator — serving Indianapolis, Indiana and beyond
Certified Doula · Indianapolis, IN
My name is Mariama, and I am a mama, certified doula, childbirth educator, and maternal health advocate, based in Indianapolis, Indiana. I am a proud graduate of Indiana University Bloomington, and over the past four years, I have had the profound honor of supporting more than 200 mamas across Indiana through pregnancy, birth and postpartum — both virtually and in-person. But before I was any of those things, I was simply a woman who cared deeply about other women — and that passion has shaped every step of my journey.
I come from a rich West African, multicultural background, and I was raised right here within Indianapolis beautiful diverse community. That upbringing gave me something I carry into every client relationship — the ability to authentically connect with families from many walks of life, meeting each one with understanding, compassion, and culturally responsive care. I know what it means to navigate systems that were not always designed with you in mind, and I am committed to ensuring that every family I serve feels seen, respected, and never alone.
When I am not serving my clients, you can find me curled up with a good book, exploring a new coffee shop or park, or traveling and soaking in the beauty of the world around me. I bring that same curiosity, warmth, and openness into everything I do — including the work I get to do with you.
My passion for women's health began long before I became a doula. During my undergraduate studies, I found myself drawn to every course that centered on improving the lives of women and their families. I always knew I wanted a career rooted in service — one that would allow me to show up for communities in a meaningful way. Coming from an immigrant background, I had witnessed firsthand the challenges that women, and mothers in particular, faced when bringing new life into the world. But it was through my studies and early career that I came face to face with a startling truth: the United States has some of the worst maternal health outcomes among developed nations. I was stunned. To learn that so many women were losing their lives in childbirth in one of the most powerful countries in the world was heartbreaking — and it was personal. I have family members who traveled to the United States to give birth because they believed it was the safest place to deliver. What many did not know — what I did not fully know at the time — is that Black and Brown women are two to three times more likely to die from childbirth-related causes than their counterparts, regardless of their education or socioeconomic status. That reality shook me, and it ignited a fire in me that has never gone out.
That fire is how Rahma Maternal Services was born. I established Rahma in 2022 out of a deep commitment to maternal health advocacy — to ensure that women receive the education, support, and resources they need to prepare for birth and beyond. I believe every mother deserves to walk into that labor room feeling empowered, informed, and equipped to advocate for herself. The maternal mortality crisis, and the systemic barriers that far too many Black and Brown women face, are not acceptable — and I am proud to be part of a growing community of providers working to change these statistics, one family at a time.
With specialized training and a heart-centered approach, here at Rahma Maternal, we offer personalized care and support to expectant mothers and their partners — from pregnancy through the postpartum journey. It is our greatest joy and privilege to ensure that every woman we work with feels truly heard, genuinely seen, and deeply cared for.
